In the centre of the island of Langeland lies the idyllic castle town of Tranekær surrounded by beautiful countryside. The town is characterised by old timber-framed houses but is probably best known for its beautiful red castle, Tranekær Slot, situated high on a sloping hill overlooking the town. The old theatre building in front of the castle of Tranekær houses the souvenir museum called Souvenariet, a quirky museum where you will find new and old souvenirs from all over the world. countryside.
Both coasts of Langeland, east and west of Tranekær, offer excellent bathing spots. The child-friendly sandy beach of Bellevue is situated less than 7 km south of Tranekær close to the harbour of Rudkøbing, and 8 km north of town is the beach of Helletofte, a mix of sand and pebbles with a little grass and shallow, calm water. A few kilometres south of Tranekær lies Longelse Bondegårdsskov, a so-called 'virgin' piece of woodland whose trees are left alone, so visitors can experience oaks more than 250 years old.
