Tips for holiday home stays in Tisvildeleje
The long, white sandy beach at Tisvildeleje is child-friendly and offers clear salt water, dunes and woodland long with small, bright beach huts, manned lifeguard stations in the summer months and easy access for wheelchairs as well as prams.
Towns around Tisvildeleje:
Many charming towns are strung along the North Zealand coast, from Helsingør (Elsinore) in the east to Hundested in the west. In Helsingør, you can visit Castle of Kronborg or the M/S Maritime Museum of Denmark, an underground museum designed by world-famous architects BIG – Bjarke Ingels Group.
The town of Hornbæk, where some of the first Danish holiday homes were built in the 1890s, is a cosy seaside town with a fine sandy beach, a marina, shops and a good selection of restaurants and eateries. In the fishing town of Gilleleje life centres around the harbour with its restaurants and sale of fish from shops as well as directly from the boats.
And finally, farthest to the west, there is Hundested, which the locals do not like to call a tourist town – it is the real thing, they say, a town with a thriving port accommodating fishing boats as well yachts and the ferry to Rørvig.
Activities and attractions:
Every year at the end of July, the festival called "Musik i Lejet" takes place – a highly regarded 3-day music festival featuring many quality names that attract tourists as well as locals, young and old, and transforms the town completely.
It is a relatively new and beautifully situated festival, its stage facing directly towards the Kattegat sea.
The entire coast of North Zealand offers prime angling spots. If you want a bit more excitement during your holiday home stay, you can go paragliding from nearby Heatherhill, only 9 kilometres from Tisvildeleje, whose steep cliffs and generally favourable wind conditions make it ideal for this sport.
Combine your relaxing holiday home stay with a little city life: Copenhagen is only an hour away and offers everything you would expect of a big city: cultural attractions, sights, shopping, cafés, and everything from good eateries to Michelin-starred and gourmet restaurants.
