Spend a lovely time in one of the many holiday home areas along the Danish coastline. Here you can enjoy all the good things the holiday towns along the coasts have to offer, summer and winter. In summer, bathing trips to the beach will be just the thing for the entire family.
Play in the dunes, build a sand castle, go for a dip or relax on the beach with a good book. The coasts also have plenty to offer in spring, autumn and winter, and it is always great to get out and go for a walk along the beach.
Holiday by the North Sea or on the calmer shores of East Jutland?
If you like calm waters, the East Jutland coasts are ideal. Here you will find many child-friendly beaches with no undertow and with fine white sand stretching up towards the dunes. Many of the beaches have been awarded the Blue Flag, a guarantee for great water and sand quality and for easy access and good toilet facilities.
Those who like more action and activities on the waves often head to the North Sea coast whose northern parts, from Agger to Hanstholm, have become havens for surfing and windsurfing. By the North Sea coast in the southern part of Jutland, you will find many popular areas, like Harboøre, Hvide Sande and Blåvand. These towns all have the North Sea on one side and calmer fjord waters on the other. SUPing, stand-up paddle boarding, has also grown popular as a water sport, and many Danish holiday towns now offer paddle boarding.
Island breaks – holiday homes with sea on all sides
On the many Danish islands, you're never far from the sea, no matter where you go. Bornholm is famous for its many lovely beaches and has become a very popular holiday home destination. Besides its broad sandy beaches, Bornholm also offers more dramatic landscapes with steep rocky cliffs.
Rømø is very popular with holidaymakers – understandably so, because this Wadden Sea island is something quite special. Along the fascinating 4-kilometre stretch of Sønderstrand beach, you can try your skills with the kite buggy, a kind of go-kart with sails that lets you zoom along the beach.
On the islands of South Funen, you will also find many wonderful beaches and coastal landscapes. These islands are also situated quite close to each other, so if you fancy a bit of island hopping, you can visit several of them during your holiday. A single-day island hopping trip might include ferry rides from Faaborg to Lyø and Avernakø and then back to Faaborg – an easily manageable day trip including a couple of hours spent on each island.
North Zealand – seaside holiday and city break in one
In North Zealand you will find the holiday home areas of Tisvildeleje, Gilleleje, Dronningmølle and Hornbæk, all situated by lovely beaches and surrounded by beautiful countryside. The advantage of many of these destinations is that they have plenty of all-year residents and consequently more to offer shopping-wise. Besides, most places in North Zealand are only an hour away from Copenhagen by car if you want to include a city break in your holiday. If you are spending two or three weeks in a holiday home, a little trip to the city may be welcome, particularly if you are travelling with teenagers.
Seaside holiday homes
When you book your holiday home, you can choose how far away from the sea you want to stay. If you would like to go for a dip first thing in the morning for instance, you can select holiday homes situated less than 100 m from the beach.
