The unique countryside of Western Jutland is characterised by mudflats and a tidal landscape (a stop-off point place for countless numbers of birds throughout the year) as well as long, white sandy beaches, high sand dunes, atmospheric sunsets, extensive moors and dense forests. The broad beaches are ideal for bathing, walking, hang gliding, beach volleyball, riding and petanque, and are no less of a paradise for water sport lovers. The tidal islands of Fanø, Mandø and Rømø are all attractive destinations. While Fanø and Rømø are well known for offering plenty of life and entertainment, the small island of Mandø is a true paradise for nature lovers, and is almost untouched by tourism. The nearby town of Ribe is also a highly popular family destination. The town's numerous sights include the Cathedral, the Museum of Art, and the Viking Museum and Viking Centre where you can relive the golden age of the famed Nordic warriors. Close to Ribe, attractions include the Tidal Centre and Safari Zoo Park, which counts a 5 metre-long python amongst its exotic inhabitants. Other highlights include walking around Ribe's old town with its cobbled streets and half-timbered houses with their attractively decorated doors and facades. Both in and around Ribe you will find plenty of exciting art and handicrafts created both by local and internationally renowned artists. You will also have the opportunity to purchase specialist local products from the many farm shops, including homemade cheeses, locally-grown spices, heather honey and local lamb. If you are willing to travel a little further, the major attractions of Legoland and Givskud Zoo. are just an hour's drive away.
